Alexander Zverev should learn from Rafael Nadal, says expert

Tennis commentator Stefan Humpel believes that Alexander Zverev can achieve some major success in the future. The 21-year-old already holds three Masters 1000 titles but he reached just one Grand Slam quarter-final at the 2018 French Open losing to Dominic Thiem. According to Hempel, Zverev should not waste energies in the early rounds. "Rafael Nadal is an example on it", he said.

Hempel also praised Zverev: "He really has everything. The whole package. He is strong on any surface, whatever is grass, clay or hard. He needs to do better with his strengths. Making the opponents' life more complicated, win in Grand Slams."

Fellow expert Marcel Meinert backed the choice of adding Ivan Lendl on his team. "That's a great thing to help him to go to the top", said Meinert. "Sascha is now in the best age of tennis and I am very confident that he will achieve his goals.

Hempel concluded speaking about German tennis: "Many junior players were very strong but then they did not become anything. It's different than teams sports. At the moment we have just one top 100 German junior players. In the junior Grand Slams, there are no German players. But we hope 11, 12, 13-year-olds can become talented. It's a long way to go to men's tennis. But it will change."

Zverev lost to Jan Lennard Struff in the Indian Wells third round and he will play the Miami Open next.
