ATP Indian Wells: Roger Federer tops Stan Wawrinka in less than an hour!

The world no. 4 and five-time Indian Wells champion Roger Federer has scored the 64th triumph at this event after a one-sided 6-3, 6-4 victory against the three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka in 59 minutes! Roger and Stan have met for the 25th time and the more successful and experienced Swiss grabbed the 22nd win, the sixth in a row since the Roland Garros 2015! Roger was the player to beat from start to finish, hitting 12 winners and nine unforced errors and dropping only ten points behind the initial shot, offering no break points to Stan.

On the other hand, Wawrinka fired 18 direct points but also 21 mistakes, returning just 67% of Roger's serves and losing ground in the shortest points to finish his campaign in the third round, having failed to beat Roger in the title match here two years ago as well. Wawrinka managed to fend off three break points in the fourth game before he suffered a break at love in game six that sent Federer 4-2 up, closing the opener with a hold at 15 in game nine after just 28 minutes of play! The second set offered nothing new, Stan was unable to read the rival's initial shot and got broken at 1-1 when his backhand landed long, giving Roger a set and a break lead and reducing his chances for the positive outcome.

Federer confirmed the break with three service winners in the next game and that was all he needed to bring the match home, cementing the sixth game with a service winner and moving 5-3 up with three good serves in game eight. Serving for the win, Roger held at love in game ten to seal the deal and race into the last 16 where he will face the young Briton Kyle Edmund who is in good form after winning Indian Wells Challenger previous week.
