Caroline Wozniacki's father blasts WTA for too strict rules

In an interview to TV2, Piotr Wozniacki commented on the complex situation regarding his daughter Caroline who is dealing with rheumatoid arthritis. Wozniacki is taking medicines, but she needs to be careful in order not to accidentally fall afoul of the PED stipulations. "WTA has rules that players should not follow, for example taking vitamins from companies that do not sponsor WTA," said Piotr. "We all know that the C vitamin can help us to become healthy, but with the rules they have, they cannot accept it. We have to wait Caroline to be healthy again and play. It's just shocking."

WTA is not aware of Wozniacki's criticism and they wrote that all ill athletes should be evaluated at the medical level before deciding if they can take certain substances or not. "Depending on the clinical results, every athlete gets treated rightly following the best procedures."

In one of her press conferences, Caroline said: "I have to be fair to myself, as well. If I can't even play at a reasonable level, there's no reason for me to go out there and just, you know, yeah, play one set. I want to go out there and I want to win. Every time I play a match, I think I can beat the opponent, I think I can win the tournament. I don't feel like that right now. I'm getting better slowly. I'm just getting over it. But there's still a ways to go. I'm just taking it day by day. Just have to try to be smart about it."
