Everyone is worried about the future of Spanish tennis after Nadal -Diaz

In a recent interview, the Spanish tennis federation President Miguel Diaz commented on what the future of tennis will be without the 32-year-old Rafael Nadal who still manages to keep competing at the highest level. "We will have Rafa Nadal two or three more years", said Diaz. "Everyone is worried about the future, but it already happened on other occasions and other players have still come up. It may not be like the Nadal, Ferrer, Feliciano, Verdasco generation... But you have talented people who can be in the top 20 or 30."

Without Nadal. "I do not think there will be a desert, but it's that we had the world No. 1 and 5... It was not normal for a country like us. Making a player come up takes a toll. From the Federation, we invest half a million euros for younger players and tournaments' category. You already have more than 20 tournaments of $25,000 and from two Challengers we switched to six and we want to go up to eight."

On the new Davis Cup format, Diaz added: "We will try to make some finals being played on clay. Davis Cup needed a change, although it came in a drastic way. When you have a market, you have not to make it die. If it does not work in the future, you could look back at the past."

Alejandro Davinovich is one of the promising young Spanish players. In an interview to AS, Davinovich commented on his reference points: "Djokovic is my idol, I see myself a lot on him. Nadal is unique and the guys like us coming from behind are unique as well, and I will do as everything as possible to at least equal Rafa's level."
