Former player explains why Roger Federer won't struggle against Gojowczyk
The former world No. 25 singles player Filippo Volandri believes that Roger Federer will not struggle in beating Peter Gojowczyk in the Indian Wells Masters second round on Sunday. The German defeated Andreas Seppi in the opening round. "He (Federer) may have been bothered more by the best Seppi's solid game, it means playing a lot of points and have more tiring rallies. Goyowczyk's game, although he played well on Friday, is more comfortable to Federer", said Volandri on Sky Sport.
On Alexander Zverev, Volandri added: "We are waiting him to make a breakthrough in Slams but he already won Masters 1000s and ATP Finals. And he can win them again. But in the Majors he is struggling but it's mostly a mental issue. Best of five sets is almost a different sport. It's just about being matured."
Volandri also showed his happiness for Nick Kyrgios's comeback to a high tennis level: "We need players also like Kyrgios, whatever his behaviour is."
On Marco Cecchinato's success, Volandri concluded: "I know Marco well. Overcoming one like Fognini who made the history of past and current Italian tennis is good and they are motivating each other, they are No. 16 and 17s. He built his career on clay but he started winning important matches on hard since the past summer and he improved the backhand, which was a weakness for him. That will never be his best surface but he can get some good results."
