Gunter Bresnik suggests Dominic Thiem should keep Nicolas Massu
Coach Gunter Bresnik doesn't see any reason why pupil Dominic Thiem shouldn't continue collaborating with Chile's Nicolas Massu but says it will be the Austrian who will have to make the decision regarding the Chilean's future.
World No. 4 Thiem and Chilean Davis Cup Team Captain Massu met during the Austria versus Chile Davis Cup tie last month and shortly after started collaborating.
Thiem's long-time coach Bresnik has remained the Austrian's main coach but it is former world No. 9 Massu who is now accompanying the world No. 4 at tournaments.
However, Bresnik closely follows the 25-year-old's matches and regularly speaks with the Austrian's team.
Since hiring Massu, Thiem made the Buenos Aires semi-final, suffered a surprise round-of-16 exit in Rio de Janeiro but then won his maiden Masters 1000 title after beating Swiss Roger Federer in the Indian Wells Masters final.
Thiem had a difficult start to the season as he picked up a first-round loss in Doha, before he was forced to retire his Australian Open second round clash due to fatigue and skip the Davis Cup and Cordoba.
However, the Austrian is now in a much better place as he is preparing to kick off his fifth Miami Masters campaign.
Thiem, seeded at No. 3 in the Miami main draw, has a first round bye at the tournament as he is due to open his campaign against the winner of the match between Italy's Matteo Berrettini and Poland's Hubert Hurkacz.
