John Isner: I probably won't defend my Miami Masters title
American tennis star John Isner doesn't appear to be too confident in his chances of winning back-to-back Miami Open titles.
The 33-year-old won his maiden Masters 1000 title last year after beating German Alexander Zverev in the Miami Masters final.
The 33-year-old is now set to make his 12 appearance at the Miami event.
Isner, seeded at No. 7 in the Miami draw, has a first round at the tournament.
The American will open his campaign against the winner of the match between Martin Klizan and a qualifier.
"I do know that, look, odds are, I probably won't defend this title," Isner said, per AP. "At the same time, it is cool coming back as the defending champion of a tournament of this magnitude. Never been in this situation before. Just looking forward to it. No pressure. I don't look at it as, 'Oh, I'm going to lose a bunch of points.' You can't look at it like that. It's just another tournament you want to do well in."
Isner didn't impress at the opening Masters 1000 event of the season in Indian Wells.
The American was beaten by rising Russian star Karen Khachanov in the BNP Paribas Open round-of-16.
It remains to be seen how much can Isner do on the hard courts of Miami this year.
Isner is also due to play the Miami doubles as he fellow compatriot Sam Querrey have been drawn to meet Marcelo Demoliner and Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round.
