I approached the final against Roger Federer with no expectations - Thiem

Dominic Thiem didn't expect to win his maiden Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells last week. The 25-year-old does not consider hard courts as his favourite surface and he had started the year on a bad note being influenced by an illness. "I was in the finals but Roger Federer was in a great form, we all know how good he can play so I went into the finals with no expectations, I just wanted to play a very good match. It ended up being a great match and so luckily I came up. He played very different to the previous opponents I had before in the tournament so I had to get used to his game it was so fast and close, and I think I turned it around when I saved break points at 1-all and all of a sudden I was up. That a huge difference. I started playing well and I was 100 per cent in the match", said Thiem, who defeated the Swiss 3-6 6-3 7-5.

Thiem also commented on the Hard Rock Stadium, which is the new Miami Open venue: "As a reigning Masters 1000 winner It feels great, but also very nice to explore a new venue, it does not happen that we get to know that often new sights and huge, something very impressive and unique to play in. Of course, I came here very happy. It's huge. First of all so much space and now I am seeing the court for the first time and so big as well. For us, it's nice to explore a new site because it's every year almost the same. It's completely different than Indian Wells in the desert, it's pretty humid so that's the biggest difference. But the court and the conditions here compared to Key Biscayne are pretty similar. Saying that I can achieve the sunshine double and going far here is tough, I start from zero."
