Laver Cup CEO says he hopes Roger Federer will be captain after retirement

The Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks said that he hoped the Swiss player would become captain after his professional playing days come to an end. Zacks is not worried about the future of the event once the current legends retire. "The idea of the concept was to create an event on the tennis calendar that you can see. We always get compared to the Ryder Cup, where rivals become teammates too. It has been working for many years, it does not matter if stars change. Also, the stars will change, but the beauty of the Laver Cup is that we celebrate all the generations. Borg and McEnroe with Federer and Nadal. It will continue. The day when Federer stops playing, we hope he will be the captain. We definitely want to include the current stars in the future," the 56-year-old American said.

There have been big changes on the tennis calendar. Is it too much? "People loves our event. It's unique. The most important thing is that players enjoy themselves playing together. We do not really think about other events."

Asked if he is worried that the Davis Cup may take place in the same week as Laver Cup, Zacks replied: "As I said: my job is to give people a great event. I do not want to speculate on what could happen."

Asked about the tournament's budget, Zacks said, "We do not share it publicly. We invest a lot of money on it and we generate enough income to keep doing it. The event was launched to celebrate and honor Rod Laver. The goal was never to make too much money with it."
