Loss to Novak Djokovic at last year's Wimbledon marked season - Moya

Rafael Nadal's coach Carlos Moya believes that loss to Novak Djokovic at last year's Wimbledon semi-final turned the season for the Spaniard. Speaking to ATP, Moya said: "He had chances to defeat Djokovic, that match changed the season. Kevin Anderson was coming from a very long season with John Isner and Rafa would have been a favorite in the final. What did that mean? That Djokovic would win his first Grand Slam in some years. You also have to look at the matches he won during his career and the ones he could lose. People always tend to remember the matches he could have won and ended up losing, but he also won many tournaments being closer to lose."

Nadal won a lot of battles throughout his career: "You make the epic getting remembered a lot, and the king of (the) epic is Rafa. They use to be long and Open matches. I'd rather not be like this, because if you have (an) epic, it means you had long matches and you do not benefit a lot from the long matches. Ten years ago I would make Rafa get his match as long as possible, now it's not like this. But in the end, it's Nadal and people love Nadal for the matches he wins when they are completely lost."

How many times has Moya gotten angry with Rafael in the last two-and-a-half years?  "Angry nope, basically never. You have different thoughts sometimes. If I tell him something id because I think it's the best thing for him, but it does not mean that I am always right. These are open conversations. Many times we agree (with) each other and sometimes we do not. I always try to be honest and tell him what's best for him. Otherwise, I would not have credibility. I do not want to be a robot either. It's an honest relationship."
