Novak Djokovic shares motivation behind creating eponymous foundation

In an interview to NCB, Novak Djokovic commented on how he started the Novak Djokovic Foundation in 2007. The Serbian player's charitable activity helps many kids in his country. "Both my wife and I grew up in families that nurture education and understand the value of early childhood development," said the world no. 1 during the Miami Open.

On how the whole project began, Djokovic added: "We talked to UNICEF, they provided us the data that one of the biggest issues that need addressing is early childhood development, over 50 percent of children at that time in Serbia were not attending any preschool program or institution or anything like that. Sure."

Continuing, he said, "We've been seeing firsthand how important it is to dedicate yourself to your children, to have quality educational time with them, to understand what they go through, to understand their needs, accept them, embrace them, love them, you know we've been learning every single day."

Djokovic lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the Miami Open fourth round. The Serb will now take a rest and will play the Monte Carlo Masters next on clay.
