Philipp Kohlschreiber withdraws from Miami Masters
German tennis star Philipp Kohlschreiber has withdrawn from the Miami Open.
The German failed to make it past the Miami Masters qualifying in 2004 but debuted in the tournament's main draw a year later in 2005.
Overall, the 35-year-old has collected nine main draw appearances at the Miami event.
Despite playing in Miami for nine times, world No. 39 Kohlschreiber has never made a deep run at the tournament.
The German made the Miami third round three times so far in his career.
In his last Miami appearance -- which came in 2007 -- the 35-year-old suffered a third-round loss to Spain's Rafael Nadal.
Kohlschreiber last played at the BNP Paribas Open, where he lost to French Gael Monfils in the Indian Wells Masters round-of-16 this Wednesday.
The German will now take a short break and prepare for the upcoming European clay-court swing.
Meanwhile, a place in the Miami main draw has opened for Australian Bernard Tomic following the withdrawal of Kohlschreiber.
The 26-year-old is set to make his sixth Miami main draw appearance.
The Australian hasn't played at the Miami Masters since 2015.
Tomic made five consecutive Miami appearances between 2011 and 2015.
His best result at the tournament came in his last appearance -- when he made the third round, before losing to Czech Tomas Berdych.
In the remaining four Miami appearances, Tomic picked up two first round and two second round exits respectively.
The Miami Open is due to be held from March 20-31.
