Pundit draws differences between Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic

Speaking on Amazon Prime the pundit Mark Petchey commented on the differences in terms of gamestyle between Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Petchey said: “You look at Rafa, I say he plays with rhythmic violence. Roger, aggressively relaxed. That’s when they play their best tennis when they’re in that kind of zone. Novak lost that for a while and understandably so. You can’t underestimate what everything took out of him, the fact he held all four majors at the same time. I think people, at times, because they are superhuman, because of what they are achieving, can continue to do that. He found his centre. He lost it for a while. He lost his spiritual guidance from Marian Vajda."

Petchey also commented on what would mean to Djokovic to win his fourth Major in a row at the French Open: “I think that’s why we need to keep where Novak is mentally in check. Let's be honest, to hold all four Grand Slams again is a significant achievement. And obviously that will be his focus. So you can forgive him if at the moment he is feeling as though he wants to save a little bit of his mental powers for that particular part of the year.”

In an interview to Polska Times, the tennis expert Wojciech Fibak commented on Novak Djokovic's comeback to the highest level. The Serb won three Grand Slam titles in a row since last year's Wimbledon and he aims to achieve the Novak Slam at the French Open. "Everything depends on your mind", said Fibak. "Novak's problems are not connected to sport reasons only, because there were family issues as well. Several thoughts, some experts who were surrounding him. All together, they upset him so much that for some time he was not able to compete at the same level as before. Being at the top is not just a privilege and pleasure, but it also requires a lot of effort and sacrifice."

On the Australian Open results, he added: "Roger Federer's loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas showed that everything is possible. Roberto Bautista Agut defeated Andy Murray and the defending finalist Marin Cilic. Frances Tiafoe beat Kevin Anderson for the first time and then Grigor Dimitrov."
