Roger Federer shares his thoughts on corruption in sports
In an interview to Bote, Roger Federer commented on corruption in sports. Sometimes, big headlines about athletes alleged of sexual abuse or doping appear on newspapers. What does Federer think about it? 'If it does not involve you, it's okay. You just have to be focused on playing with passion, giving everything and being grateful and respecting your sport', said Federer, a true inspiration for many kids and adults. 'There are athletes who do well, and unluckily the bad part is there too. But sports may be doing better than before. I know there are probably still certain things in certain sports. In tennis probably not because I see there are no extra helps. It's important to have respect for others. If you do not have it, you can leave.'
For Federer, being a role model is extremely important: 'At the end, sports offer you an unbelievable platform to show your equity and passion. You get the microphone and you can inspire people. You can do well with your weapons. You can people happy through your performances and enjoying yourself.'
Federer reiterated that he is not thinking about the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The 37-year-old is just focused about the 2019 season at the moments. 'I often spoke about it. This is too much far away', Federer told Bote. 'Now I want to play well this year and then looking to 2020 at the end of the year. In the end, it's always important that my family is doing well, my body is doing well, wins are there. That's why it's too far away.'
