Roger Federer will play 2020 Olympics, break Connors' record - Navratilova

The 18-time Major winner Martina Navratilova believes that Roger Federer will play the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Swiss player often said that the event is still too far away and he did not guarantee he will play there, but speaking on The Tennis Channel, Navratilova said: “The Olympics, the whole Japanese sponsor situation with Uniqlo, he would love to win another medal for Switzerland. He and Stan Wawrinka playing doubles, that’s going to be a hard team to beat. He looked like a little kid when he won in the Olympics [in 2008]. I wouldn’t put it past him if that’s one of the goals but most of all singles of course. It is there for the taking, it is anybody’s ball game, particularly Olympics where it is best of three.”

On Federer's chances to get to Jimmy Connors's 109 titles record, Navratilova added: "He’ll get to it if he plays long enough. It is just a matter of if he plays one or two more years. For sure we know he will play through next year so it is definitely doable. He could play some smaller events but he won’t do that. He’s moving beautifully, he seems fit and healthy most of all and he can win on any surface. Other than maybe the French Open, he can on win anything.”
