Scott McTominay: 'Roger Federer has been at the top for so many years'

The 22-year-old Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay came through the Manchester United academy and was promoted to the first team at the beginning of 2017/18 season under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese got fired in December, replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who gave McTominay a chance to replace injured Nemanja Matic and prove himself in the last couple of matches. Settled at his best position on the field, Scott was there to help his team scoring that magnificent win in Paris over Paris SG that propelled them into the quarter-final of the Champions League where they will face Barcelona. 

McTominay is very passionate about tennis as well, not playing that often to avoid possible injuries but watching Wimbledon and other Grand Slams on TV. Scott would love to visit the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club at some point and watch his favorite player Roger Federer in action. McTominay praised Federer as one of the players who has been at the top for so many years, admiring Roger's ability to stay competitive for two decades. The 37-year-old Swiss is ranked in the top-5 16 years after he entered that group for the first time in 2003, well-capable of fighting for big titles and highly motivated after conquering the 100th ATP crown in Dubai a few weeks ago. 

"Someone who has been at the top for so many years is Roger Federer," McTominay said. "I like my tennis. I don’t get much chance to play because it’s quite hard to play and there’s lots of twisting and turning, and you don’t want to get injured. I always watch Wimbledon and the other Majors championships as well. I’ve never been there but it’s certainly on the bucket list."
