Tennis analyst says Roger Federer's techniques are learnt alongside talent

Mark Petchey commented on the biggest strengths of Roger Federer on Amazon Prime. During the Miami Open on Tuesday, Petchey said: "It is not easy to move back against Federer because if you watch him serve, he looks down the court longer than anyone I’ve ever seen play this game. If you look at Roger, he will actually throw the ball up and still be looking at you. It is a phenomenal technique. That’s not a gift. That’s not just talent. He’s learned that. How often do you see someone running around Roger’s second serve? Never. Because he can see you move and then he looks up at the ball. You look at Roger with that service motion, it is so different from Novak and Rafa."

Federer reached the semi-finals in Miami after defeating Kevin Anderson 6-0, 6-4 in the quarter-finals on Thursday. The Swiss will play Denis Shapovalov in the penultimate match of the tournament on Friday. It will be the first meeting between the two players. This was Federer's 65th semi-final at a Masters 1000 event and his seventh semi-final in Miami. Speaking about that match, Federer said, "I have always enjoyed playing against teenagers. I think it's very exciting because of that. It's an exciting draw, for John and for myself here, playing these young guys. They are not just young, but they are very good, as well. They are nice guys. It should be hopefully good semi-finals."
