Toni Nadal reveals the three main pieces of advice given to Rafael

In a recent interview, Rafael Nadal's uncle and former coach, Toni, commented on the training method he used with the world No. 2 during the 27 years they worked together. "With Rafa, I applied values that I thought were useful both on and off the court: the excitement, the willingness. Because, like in the business world, what you did last year is not useful for the following one. You have to play every week", said Toni.

Improving has always been their goals, although there were some difficulties: "It's not easy, that requires time. You also have to want to do it and know how to listen. It's difficult to be a leader if you are not a good person, and in order to be a leader you also need to have good awareness."

"I used to train with Rafa in bad training condition, with bad balls and more hours than what it was initially said, which made him win matches."

Toni also always gave Rafael three pieces of advice: "Hit strong; place the ball where there is not your opponent and take him off the court. I always looked for personal satisfaction with Rafa, making an effort and having the desire to do things well."
