Anne Keothavong in awe of British Fed Cup team
Being promoted into the World Group for the first time since 1993, Brit Fed Cup captain Anne Keothavong spoke about her team, who beat Kazakhstan in their play-off with all matches being cliff-hangers.
“It was such an incredible effort,” Keothavong said. “I am just totally in awe of these women. I couldn’t get there as a player but to be able to captain this achievement and to finally achieve it together after so long is definitely a highlight for me,” she said.
“Watching the players develop and grow; watching Jo lead this team as the number one; playing a small part in something much bigger is a very proud moment for me.”
Speaking about the two main players of the team - Jo Konta and Katie Boulter, she said, "Jo always performs when it comes to Fed Cup and, with the weight of expectation and pressure, she always finds a way. How she does it, I'm in awe of her. And Katie as well."
She further went deeper into this thought, saying, "This should be used as a springboard for bigger and better things for all the players. For British women's tennis it's great that we have the strength in depth and I think they need to use it in a positive way."
Former Top-10 and Brit No.1 - Jo Konta, too had some things to say about the win, “I think it's a bit of a coincidence but also I am really doing well in embracing this environment and using it for what it is and what it brings to a competition," said Konta.
