ATP Estoril - DRAW: Tsitsipas, Fognini, Monfils, Goffin lead strong field

Portugal Open joined the ATP Tour in 1990, staged at the Estadio Nacional do Jamor in Oeiras until 2014 when it lost the license due to lack of sponsors. Sergi Bruguera, Carlos Costa, Thomas Muster, Alex Corretja, Carlos Moya, Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Nalbandian, Nikolay Davydenko, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Juan Martin del Potro and Stan Wawrinka have all won the title here in the past and the tournament managed to survive, moving to the Clube de Tenis do Estoril in Cascais in 2015 where it find the perfect home. The organizers have gathered a strong field of players for 2019 edition, with the last year's semi-finalist returning to Estoril together with many other high-quality players led by Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Greek fell to Joao Sousa in the semi-final 12 months ago in the deciding tie break and he seeks another good result in Estoril, scoring only four wins after that Dubai final. Stefanos will face Guido Andreozzi or Hugo Dellie in the second round and has to beat some of the Aussies to reach the semis, with Bernard Tomic, John Millman and Alex de Minaur standing as the remaining players in the top quarter. De Minaur lost to Edmund in the second round here last May and he returns to action for the first time since Indian Wells, struggling with illness for the last couple of months.

The 4th seed David Goffin asked for a wild card to make Estoril debut, struggling to find form in 2019 and needing more matches before heading to Madrid for the fourth Masters 1000 event of the season. David should face the defending champion Joao Sousa in the second round and the winner battles against Malek Jaziri, Nicolas Jarry, Dusan Lajovic or Leonardo Mayer in a wild open quarter. A former champion and the last year's semi-finalist Pablo Carreno Busta hadn't played since Cordoba in February when he suffered a right shoulder injury, leading the third quarter together with Gael Monfils who missed the action after Indian Wells due to injury.

Jeremy Chardy, Taylor Fritz, Reilly Opelka and Pedro Sousa will try to spoil their party and the potential quarter-final match, with more good tennis being reserved for the bottom quarter where are Frances Tiafoe, Monte Carlo champion Fabio Fognini and Budapest finalist Filip Krajinovic.
