Even Federer, Nadal, Djokovic lose more than they win - Fognini

In an interview to Il Corriere Della Sera, Fabio Fognini was asked if his goals change now that he won the Monte Carlo Masters and he achieved his career-high ranking at No. 12. "Nothing changes, who knows me knows it. I will not change, goals will not change. I will go to the French Open and Rome to give my best as always. Then you need to understand that you can lose, which happens more than you win in tennis. And the same thing is for Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, all the greats. Now everyone plays well. The rounds, including the first ones, are tough. I am happy even when I win little events like Monte Carlo because I know what struggle there is behind", said Fognini.

In an interview to Corriere Dello Sport, Italy's Davis Cup team captain Corrado Barazzutti commented on Fognini's improvements. Barazzutti and Fognini have been working together for several weeks this year and the work paid off. "Over the last weeks I helped him to re-calibrate his game: in Marrakech, he had lost a bad match against Jiri Vesely but you could already see something, he had started thinking being cool", said Barazzutti. "Then of course in tennis luck is also needed, that's part of the game. In Monte Carlo in the first round, he was down 6-4 4-1 against Andrey Rublev, he had almost lost while in the second round he had not even played due to the Gilles Simon's withdrawal. But in the semifinals, he played an amazing match against the best clay-courter ever. And at an impressive speed.

His game is made of variety, rhythm change, drop shots, touch and talent. We also reviewed his technique especially on the forehand side and the backhand too. But with tennis players, it's like this: you lose two, three matches and you start going through a bad time, you start losing reference points. There is still a lot to work on. Fabio needs to serve a bit better, being closer to the baseline. Now Franco Davin will help him, even if I will stay close to him."
