I dream about becoming world no. 1 every day, says Stefanos Tsitsipas
In an interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas commented on him committing to play the Davis Cup in September for the first time in career. "I will come. I miss Greece, my family, my friends. Everything. The last time I was there was in December, before travelling to Cyprus for a holiday," said Tsitsipas.
Walking on streets freely is a bit of a problem now for Tsitsipas, whose popularity has soared. "I will try to find ways to avoid it."
"I was very close to the top ten from the beginning of the year. Specifically at no. 16, if I am not wrong. I knew that if I could do well in two or three tournaments, I would have joined the top ten. All I needed was focus and desire. At the Australian Open, I was so relaxed that for some reason I did better than I thought. But I did not do anything special, I just had a good tournament and I have bigger goals and expectations for the future. I had a very good experience but it's just the beginning and not the end, so I want to win more."
Is he dreaming about becoming a world no. 1? "Yes, of course, every day I think I will reach the no. 1. When you are in the position I am at now, you feel a big opportunity to be closer to the top. So you have to take it."
Isn't it a bit stressful to think of reaching the top? "It can be a bit stressful. But I know the top ten players and if I manage to be close to them, fighting and competing against them, I can take their place."
