It's not normal to still see Federer, Nadal winning major titles - Toni

In an interview to Ubitennis, Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni commented on his nephew's ability to go through matches also without playing his best tennis. "He manages to handle difficulties. That's in his mind and Federer and Djokovic also have it. Younger players instead are different, if it goes well they win otherwise they are not able to win playing bad. They just want to hear that they are good, that it goes well. They do not accept criticism. It's normal to see 37, 33-year-olds still winning the major tournaments", said Toni referring to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Asked if Nadal may not play hardcourt tournaments anymore, Toni replied: "I deny it. Problems are still there on hard, less on grass, but Rafa will keep playing there."

On Jaume Munar's potential, Toni added: "He is different. He has not unbelievable shots but he is always there. Even in the match lost against Borna Coric, he fought although he was going through complicated situations. It remembers the Nadal of 2005."

Asked to comment on Lorenzo Sonego who started playing only at 11 years of age, Toni replied: "I am surprised but until some extent. What's important is not the age where you start but always making improvements. Rafa was at the same level as Richard Gasquet back in the junior days, then he managed to progress", concluded the 58-year-old who is the Head Director of the Rafa Nadal Academy.
