John Isner celebrates enormous ranking milestone with 500 weeks in top-50
After four tremendous years at the University of Georgia, John Isner was ready to chase pro success thanks to his booming serve and firing forehand. John played the first ATP final in Washington in the summer of 2007, just a week after conquering Lexington Challenger. The Greensboro native gained more than 500 places on the ATP list in 14 days and cracked the top-100 in February 2008, staying away from that group for almost a year before returning in June 2009, never leaving the elite 100 again. Improving every element of his game and working hard to achieve his best season after season, Isner has competed in 27 ATP finals so far, winning 14 titles and claiming the biggest one in Miami last year.
John has won more than 30 ATP matches in every year between 2010-2018 and managed to qualify for the ATP Finals for the first time in a career last season, losing all three encounters in London but making another big step at the age of 33. On Monday, Isner has achieved another impressive milestone, celebrating 500 consecutive weeks in the top-50 after entering that group in September 2009 following the fourth-round run at the US Open! Since September 14, 2009, John Isner has always been among 50 best players in the world, barely staying there in the first half of 2011 before propelling his position in Newport, Atlanta and Washington, always delivering his best tennis on home soil.
Since August that year, John has been ranked inside the top-25 almost all the time and he has spent more than 350 weeks in the top-20, competing on a high-level year after year to join some of the best active players on the list with the most consecutive weeks in the top-50.
