Nicolas Massu shares how he helped Dominic Thiem beat Roger Federer

Nicolas Massu had a big impact on Dominic Thiem's improvements. The Argentinean joined the Austrian player's in February in the Buenos Aires tournament. "In the hard-court season, we changed many things that made a lot of difference but also on clay where he was on the top 3 in the last years looking at the results. But since he already did well here, we do not have to change too much. He is playing his best tennis now, and I can practice with him, we practice together so I know how the ball comes and I also competed with the current players like Federer and Ivo Karlovic so I can tell him what it works and what doesn't", said Massu. Karlovic and Federer were both beaten by Thiem in the last month's Indian Wells final.

Massu also praised Thiem: "All the people say good things about him. They are so respectful and it's so easy to work with him. For a coach to work with Dominic is so simple because he gives his 100 per cent all the time. He has talent, he can improve many things and I look forward to that. He is a great player. The success in Indian Wells was surprising because he was coming from sickness and did not practice for many days at the beginning of the year. He changed so much over a short time and he beat Roger Federer who is the greatest player in history so everything was amazing."

Thiem will start his run in Barcelona this week, he reached the 2017 final there losing to Rafael Nadal.
