Novak Djokovic doesn't seem to be competitive, says Rusedski
Speaking on Amazon Prime the former world No. 4 Greg Rusedski commented on Novak Djokovic's three-set loss to Daniil Medvedev in the Monte Carlo Masters. “I think he was better than Indian Wells and Miami but it wasn’t the Djokovic which won Miami. It just wasn’t the guy mentally who wanted it so badly. You look at Madrid and Rome and think he has to show us a performance before the French Open. You could just say Rafa Nadal is the man to beat at the moment. He doesn’t look like the competitive Djokovic", said Rusedski.
On why Nadal played against Guido Pella as the third match of the day, the Brit added: "He’s Spanish. They don’t go to dinner before 11 or 12 at night. So they don’t like to be first matches. Whenever I played a Spaniard I’d ask ‘can I please play first’. Because they take one set to wake up when they get an early morning start. Nadal likes being third on because temperatures are warmer and the ball bounces a little bit higher.”
Speaking on Amazon Prime the former top ten WTA player Daniela Hantuchova commented on Novak Djokovic's three-set loss to Daniil Medvedev in Monte Carlo. The Slovakian believes the Serb should have been more committed. “For me, it is so important for how much time they spend on the practice courts. After Miami, they went on holiday with his wife and his kids to the Dominican Republic. That is a little bit of a question mark. If you haven’t really had a good trip to America you want to get back onto the practice courts, that’s where he lives. He should have got onto the training ground and done everything you can to feel well on the court. Instead, he had just 10 days’ preparation. That to me is very little", said Hantuchova.
On why Rafael Nadal played the third match of the day on Friday against Guido Pella, Hantuchova added: "I think that is when it gets less windy. And it is also good timing. You can have your practice early morning, then you have lunch. If you are in the middle of the day you don’t really know how to organise your food because you are playing during your lunchtime. He can have a nice meal, settle down a bit and it seems like it has been working for him for 11 years. So he’s going to keep doing the same thing."
