Roger Federer still has a lot of hunger, says coach Ivan Ljubicic
In an interview to Sky Sport, Roger Federer's coach Ivan Ljubicic praised the Swiss player's motivation despite having won 101 titles in his career so far. "He is still very hungry and he got used to clay pretty quickly", the former world No. 3 said.
On the Italian tennis, Ljubicic added: "It's important to have a generation where there are more top players, they motivate each other, Lorenzo Musetti who wins the Australian Open and Jannik Sinner who wins a Challenger. It's a very healthy competition and it would be beautiful to see them winning together and getting to the main Tour as soon as possible. Sinner will do all the steps, he is a very smart and calm guy and he is in good hands so it's a good time for the Italian tennis and we expect a guy to win a Grand Slam. In the same time, it's important to have many top 100 players as Turin has huge chances to host the ATP Finals and it would be really great for the promotion of tennis in Italy. Even more, younger guys will play tennis in the country."
On the new Davis Cup format, he added: "There has been a lot of confusion but it was always like this. But for the first time, there are so many changes. Then I know what I read in the newspapers so I do not know the things in detail. There is nothing to worry about but ATP and ITF do not co-operate together. What I do not like is that there are no ATP ranking points in Futures." On matches starting at 11:00 AM and finishing at 9:00 PM in Monte Carlo on Friday, which means the fourth player who won will have less time to rest than the first one, Ljubicic concluded: "It's complicated and that's why my favourite tournament is Basel because it's not before 2:00, 4:00, 6:00 and 8:00 PM and so you exactly know when you head into the court more or less. You may start at 10:00 AM or put one singles match on the Court des Princes."
