Only Roger Federer has a better technique than Fabio Fognini, says Panatta

In an interview, Fabio Fognini's father Fulvio commented on his son's success in the Monte Carlo Masters. Fognini approached the event having suffered seven losses over the last eight matches played since the Australian Open third round. "I knew the dark time sooner or later would have been past us and knowing Fabio I knew that sooner or later he would have made us a big joke", said Fulvio, who also praised the Arma di Taggia native as a person: "He is very nice towards the less lucky people. And he does it without making no one know. Day after day he took confidence and beat very high-level players like Coric, Zverev and Nadal. The success did not happen by chance. With his additional coach Corrado Barazzutti, he has a great relationship, they feel very connected to each other, they have a good combo. The former world No. 12 Paolo Bertolucci is very respectful towards Fabio, unlike other commentators and journalists who take the mindset matter out. You should break that taboo! Fabio can still improve, but I am not the only one who says he has a top ten player game. The win over Rafael Nadal? After four or five games I understood that it was Fabio to lead the rallies, Rafa will have played bad, but this time Fabio really dominated him. The final against Dusan Lajovic? Fabio had everything to lose, the pressure was much higher, he also knows Dusan very well."

How would he wish his son to be remembered in 20 years? "A great player that for years kept his name and Italy's high around the world."

Through his official Twitter account, the 1976 French Open winner Adriano Panatta praised Fognini. "Fabio finally won a real tournament, many people now are surprised and instead for me that's normal because I always thought and said that he is a player who, looking at the technique, may be second only to Roger Federer. Well done, keep like this", wrote the former world No. 4.
