Roddick: 'Roger Federer sleeps well, cares about his body 24 hours a day'
In an interview to Clarin, the former world No. 1 Andy Roddick commented on the difficulties of being a tennis player. "You go through a lot of hard things, but in the end you enjoyed. It's not easy. People see it's three and four hours, but being a tennis player can make you tired. You have to eat in a certain way, you train all the time. And it's all the days like this. This is what the top players do. I guarantee that Roger Federer cares his body, sleeps well and he has been doing it for 24 years. Having such a discipline level is not easy. It's something that really marks a difference between being a top 15 player or a top 3 or top 5."
On how it feels to be successful Roddick added: "It means a lot. Not much the process of winning something, but the expectations that come after winning. That happens in any sport. For example, Jordan Spieth had an unbelievable year and after that everyone considered it a disappointment if he did not win the Masters. It's crazy if you think about how it works. I personally think that having the right people around you is important. If you have fame and money, you can get lost sometimes. It's a great responsibility for someone who is 21, 22 years old. You need to be surrounded by the right people. I hear many times how difficult it is because you have so much money when you are young. A lot of things are tougher. It's tough, but it's a dream in the same time. I was lucky, I always kept a general view of the things, I enjoyed myself, I enjoyed the things that the success brought me but I always respected tennis. If I hanged out, it was a night and I would be back training, I would not go partying for a week. I loved tennis and I cared a lot competing. If you want to be great in your sport is tougher to behave than if you want to be famous."
