Roger Federer is a big influencer on Laver Cup decisions, says Steve Zacks

In an interview, the Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks commented on the event taking place in Geneva this year from 20 to 22 September. Why did they choose Geneva? "It was Europe's turn. We always look for very nice places, where interest in tennis is big and International fans like to go there. So, we need to have a big stadium that can include many spectators and we prefer big cities. We always ask ourselves: this city and Laver Cup, does it suit? We knew that Geneva would be great", said Zacks.

Also because Rolex and other endorsements that partner up with Laver Cup are from Switzerland. "Yeah, definitely. And Roger Federer is from Switzerland. These are strong factors that made us approach Geneva. It was always clear to us that it could be a magical place. The time was right. The city, region and Palexpo were all very interested."

How many people work in the Laver Cup organization? "We have a little group that exclusively works for the Laver Cup. But there are also many workers of the four investors, Team 8, Tennis Australia, United States Tennis Association and Lehman family, that help with their time and experiences."

What influence did Federer have in the choice? "Roger is a big influencer. Of course, we asked him: would you like to make it here? His answer was yes!"

But wasn't it Federer's idea to bring Laver Cup in Geneva? "Roger does not push with his mind. He wants us to organize Laver Cup so that it has a long term success. There are a lot of parts that are important in it. Obviously, Roger is one, endorsements, players, fans. It should be a win for everyone."
