Roger Federer pays emotional tribute to wife Mirka in Miami Open ceremony
In a prize ceremony at the Miami Open after winning a straight-set final against John Isner, Roger Federer gave a long speech paying tribute to his team members and his wife Mirka in particular. "I'd also like to thank my team who are also unbelievable", said Federer. "They are fantastic people, they are the back rock of the foundation of letting me still play at this level. I'd like to thank my wife who enjoys all the travelling, the packing, the helping, just the support. Without her, it would not be possible. My kids, thank you guys. Of course I'd like to thank a long list of people supporting this event, volunteers, sponsors, ball kids, umpires, referees, James, the Tournament Director, such a pleasure seeing a familiar face at the event and you run a great event, congratulations on the switch as well, Key Biscayne over here to the Dolphins Stadium, also thanking Stephen Ross for making this possible and keeping tennis here in Miami, a place that means so much to me. Thanks, James, thanks Ross, thanks to all the people for making a perfect event for us, the players. Last but not least, fans, thank you, after so many years you still come out. As John said, I was lucky enough to play every single match on Center Court and you guys were perfect. I know we still need time for this event to grow into its fresh skin. I had a blast, you were amazing and of course, I hope I can see you next year."
Federer also added: "I just told James Blake, the Tournament Director and a friend of mine, I am so happy that I came here because it was really worthwhile. The family had a blast and you have so much of a stretch, that means a lot to me."
