Toni Nadal: 'I always told Rafael to hit the ball as well as possible'
What was the best moment of Toni Nadal's 27-year co-operation with his nephew Rafael? In an interview, the 58-year-old answered this question. "I often asked myself what was my best moment over all these years and I said several times that I enjoyed myself a lot in Roland Garros, Wimbledon, seeing my nephew win, in the Australian Open or New York but I recall the times we were in Manacor and I noted that Rafael would improve, progress and it was as important as the successes he would achieve later", said Toni, who has not an exact formula to make a player get success: "I do not how to make a champion. In order to make a person breakthrough, I know how to make a person train well but it depends on what the player wants if they want to reach the limit. I just told Rafael to hit the ball as well as possible and in order to do it you have to be in a good position, be exigent all the time, being 100 per cent focused. This is the method. You have no methods that make you have success without making an effort."
On his role as Head Director at the Rafa Nadal Academy, Toni concluded: "My job here is to more or less say how things need to be done and giving advice. I have an experience on the professional tour and I know the things that we did bad or well. I tried changing and improving them and that's what I try to tell every kid."
