Tops e Flops of Monte Carlo Masters:the Ups and Downs of Nadal and Djokovic

TOPS

Fabio Fognini, 10. Finally! He certifies an entire career by winning his first ATP Masters 1000 as the main protagonist of the Monte Carlo CoutCountryb. Fognini reaches the full technical and tactical maturity, which allows him to beat players like Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal. On Easter day, he gives to his fans an incredible golden egg. And he also reaches his best ranking. Genius!

Dusan Lajovic, 9. In the final, we saw an unexpected version of the Serb. With solid tennis, he managed to secure a spot in the final of a Masters 1000, the first in his career. A well-deserved prize, thanks to hard work and determination. Beyond the obstacle!

Rafael Nadal, 8. His domination was interrupted by his worst performance ever on a clay court. The semi-final lost to Fognini is inexplicable, but he will be the great protagonist of the clay swing. As always. Interdict!

Daniil Medvedev, 8. He can really become a great champion. He must improve some aspects of his tennis, but in the future, he will be a formidable opponent for all his rivals. Solid!

Lorenzo Sonego and Guido Pella, 7. Both reached the quarter-finals by playing a good tennis. On clay court, they can be tough to beat for players who do not adapt well to this surface. Outsiders!

FLOPS

Novak Djokovic, 5. He only reached the quarterfinals in a tournament where he could easily reach the final. After the Australian Open, he had more struggles than expected. Will it be just a moment and will he be the protagonist in the next events? Question mark!

Alexander Zverev, 4. The German is still stock at the ATP Finals. Everything went missing in his tennis, during last week: physical strength, determination, technical and tactical improvements. He is in a moment of stasis. Disappointing!

Marco Cecchinato and Roberto Bautista, 4. Something better was expected from them. The Spaniard, at least, wasn't favoured by the draw, being defeated in the second round by Nadal.

Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic, 4. They probably played their worst tournament in the season.
