Toni Nadal: 'Rafael Nadal is fully involved in his Academy'

In an interview to the ATP Tennis Radio, Rafael Nadal's uncle and former coach Toni commented on how his nephew is involved in their Academy in Manacor. "He is fully involved. Normally he is travelling around the world but when he is in Manacor he comes there every day, he trains with some kids of the Academy, he is involved and he knows what is happening with the younger people that are there", said Toni.

The Academy also promotes summer camps for adults: "What we try to give is to have a good experience over one or two weeks, some advice and lessons they can work on in the rest of the year."

"For every sport, not just tennis, there is just one secret: work hard and think. When you hit balls without thinking, improving is difficult. This is what we try to teach our kids. And then it's about confidence. Not trying to make people think that they are very good, but think that we are not good enough but that we will be good. This is the most important thing. Not how good I am, but to have the confidence to be much better."

Toni concluded: "The Academy is going really good. We are very happy. We opened it a few years ago and things are good, we started with 17 boys and girls and now we have more than 130. They have improved a lot, we have ten people play Futures, they arrived without holding rankings points and now they have. We have two good players. Casper Ruud arrived last year and he was No. 150 and now he is 68 in the world."
