Toni Nadal tells Rafa to play always like if it was a match point - Expert
In an interview, to Liberdad Digital the tennis coach Pancho Campo commented on the Garbine Muguruza's struggles. "Garbine is an uncommon talent and has an amazing body as well as the game. But there may be some mental struggle. I spoke about it one day with Tomas Carbonell, who was a coach. We were in the Real Club de Tenis de Barcelona and he told me that the Garbine's problem is that she got used to playing on the central court, and they schedule her on the No. 17 and 18 court and it's not the same. For example in Rome, she played at midnight, the match ended at 2:00 AM and she does not like that. She needs to play matches in a more humble way like if it was a big final. It's one of the things Toni Nadal told Rafael: 'Play every point like if it was the match ball of the most important tournament'. Garbine needs to find her right moment and the right mindset to make this change. She has all the things to be a champion but something lacks mentally, which is the toughest to practice on, not only tennis but in all the aspects of life."
On the Chilean tennis, Campo added: "Marcelo Rios was a number one, an amazing talent but that was not too good physically because he was a bit short. He had a character problem and he was an extremely difficult person. Then there was Fernando Gonzalez, who had the best forehand in tennis history. Chile is a little country tennis-wise and when players of this category breakthrough, it may not be that Easy."
Nadal will compete next week as well at the Barcelona Open looking for his 12th title.
