Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov's Geneva campaign didn't go exactly as planned as the former world No. 3 failed to get a confidence boost ahead of the French Open. 

Dimitrov, now ranked at No. 47 in the world, has had a disappointing clay season so far. 

After losing to Spain's Rafael Nadal in the Monte Carlo Masters round-of-16, the Bulgarian has won only one main draw match in his next four tournaments. 

Dimitrov beat Fernando Verdasco in the Barcelona first round before he was beaten Chile's Nicolas Jarry in the round-of-16. 

The 28-year-old's poor form continued at the Masters 1000 events in Madrid and Rome as he picked up first round losses against Taylor Fritz and Jan-Lennard Struff respectively.

Seeking form and wins, Dimitrov took a wildcard into the Geneva qualifying event a week before Roland Garros. 

The Bulgarian had no problems making it past the qualifying event as he earned straight-set wins over world No. 275 Marc-Andrea Huesler and world No. 98 Thomas Fabbiano respectively. 

Dimitrov then made a great start to his first round match but even that wasn't enough as 84th-ranked Federico Delbonis came from a set down to beat the Bulgarian 1-6 6-4 6-2. 

Losing to Delbonis was another big blow for the struggling Bulgarian, who has never in his career made it past the third round at Roland Garros. 

Yet, the current situation may help Dimitrov, who will presumably enter the French Open without any expectation and pressure to achieve a great result at the tournament this year.
