Malek Jaziri: I would have loved to play Roger Federer at French Open
Tunisian Malek Jaziri says he entered his French Open first round match not knowing much about his opponent Oscar Otte, who ended up winning the match 6-3 6-1 4-6 6-0.
Otte, ranked at No. 145 in the world, broke the Tunisian twice in each of the opening two sets to get off to 2-0 set lead.
The German started the third set with a break as well but Jaziri fought back to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
However, Otte kept his focus as he cruised past the fourth set to set up a second-round meeting against Swiss Roger Federer.
"It's not easy to prepare against a player you have never seen," Jaziri told AFP.
"You don't know how he plays, you try and check on Google and YouTube but there’s nothing.
"I was too up and down today. My forehand, which is my best shot, wasn't working very well and he upped his game."
World No. 94 Jaziri felt disappointed after missing out on a chance to set up a clash against record 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer.
"Roland Garros is the most watched tennis event in Tunisia and the Arab world and I would have loved to play Roger here," Jaziri admitted.
"It was a good opportunity, but maybe next time."
