Nick Kyrgios is too crazy, says Elliot Benchetrit
In a press conference at the French Open, Elliot Benchetrit commented on some of the controversial guys on Tour like Nick Kyrgios and Benoit Paire. "Nick is just too crazy", he admitted. "Benoit has a craziness and nerves that I can understand because it happens that I go through it. On the other side, Kyrgios, there are things that nobody can ever understand."
Asked how important the prize money is for him being outside of the top 200, he replied: "Honestly, I would say it's important and not in the same time. I am lucky because my father worked a lot and I had the weapons to head into this sport properly. For me, it does not change a lot. It may change some training or trips conditions. Money is secondary, I come here for the emotion and the desire to improve in tennis. The money will be re-invested. The score may look differently, but inside me, whenever I played the qualifications, also, you have a lot of energy, a lot of change of emotions inside you that you have to manage. Sometimes you're nervous, and so I'm saying from the outside, if you ask anyone, you'll say, Oh, he had a great match. He wasn't nervous. But if you ask my inner self, I can tell you it was difficult. I fought on all shots, and that's how I managed to win."
On his win over Cameron Norrie on Tuesday, Benchetrit concluded: I found a clear tactic right from the start, which means I was able to remain rather calm throughout the match. Obviously, the first game was rather stressful. It wasn't easy for me to play for the first round here in Roland Garros, but the fact that I remained quiet and calm, it got an impression of ease maybe from the outside or serenity."
