Not facing Rafael Nadal is not a huge opportunity missed - Coppejans
In an interview, Kimmer Coppejans commented on his French Open run. The Belgian went through the qualifying draw and lost to Yannick Maden in the first round. "It's a dream to be in the main draw here. I am really happy. I am coming from three good matches because all the guys of the qualifying draw play tennis very well. I admit I hoped to be further now when I made my first appearance in 2015. But after two complicated years, I feel that things are good again. Thanks to my camp, I am going through a positive streak again. I found serenity and that helps to play even better."
"Well, as you said, during the first set I had three set points and then my tiebreak was poor. And then I was up with one break each time, but every time I broke, my serve was bad. And so twice he got the break back. Especially during the first set, it was crucial. I think it could have been a U-turn. Things could have turned out differently, but that's what tennis is all about. I think that I played less well than I did during the qualies."
"I'm pretty happy with my results so far. I really wanted to have a win today and play Rafael, but it's not a huge missed opportunity. I'm still quite happy to have reached the main draw."
Meanwhile, after his win over Ricardas Berankis, Coppejans's compatriot David Goffin said: "Everything was good there today. It was a good match from beginning to end. It was consistent. I served very well today, and it enabled me to be very aggressive on his serve. He was making my service easy, so I fought all the points. Everywhere I was able to be aggressive and to build the game. The clay is great, as good as the others. It's never easy to build the clay court from scratch, while we have been playing on the others for years, and there they had to start from scratch. They did a beautiful job as far as the court is concerned, the surface. And the architecture is great with part of the court underground. You hear the ball very well, and it's very pleasant to play on this court."
