Rafael Nadal man to beat in French Open if fit - Schett
In an interview to Standard, Eurosport TV presenter Barbara Schett commented on how she approached the French Open. "In the last weeks I watch again some of our programmes in the Australian Open", she said. "Once again, I understood I spoke too quickly. So I make sure I go less fast. There is always pressure and nerves. But I am just trying to be myself. And since we are speaking English, I always try to improve my vocabulary. There is much work behind than what you may think."
"It was said more and more times over the last years that it was not 100 per cent okay between the two. But that's more than understandable because in the long term such a close relationship doesn't work. It was the right decision, the right time for Dominic to open new horizons."
On Thiem's French Open chances, Schett added: "He can win the tournament. But as long as Rafa Nadal is fit, the top favourite comes from Mallorca. Without ifs and but. His losses should not be confusing when he is in Paris everything changes. Anyways, Thiem can make the next step, he can be world No. 1 and win in Paris. Twice, thrice. At the latest, when Nadal and Djokovic stop. We will see him winning a Grand Slam. I am sure about it."
Nadal's first round opponent Yannick Hanfmann was pleased with the experience he had on the Philippe Chatrier Stadium: "Maybe not right now, but in a couple of days, sure. In a couple of weeks, years, of course. Hopefully, I have a chance again."
