Rising Pedro Martinez: I want to be one of the best Spanish players

Rising Spaniard Pedro Martinez is hoping to become one of the best Spanish players. 

Martinez, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 134 in the world, made a good start to his French Open qualifying campaign. 

The 22-year-old beat American Christopher Eubanks 6-4 6-4 and Mirza Basic 6-2 7-5 to set up a qualifying third round meeting against Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux.

The Spaniard is coached by Javier Ferrer -- the brother of David Ferrer -- at the Ferrer Tennis Academy. 

Martinez says he can always turn to 2013 French Open runner-up Ferrer when in a need of advice. 

Ferrer said goodbye to professional tennis earlier this month at the Madrid Masters. 

"I haven't seen David since last month but if I'm at the club, he can always help. Of course, I want to be one of the best players in Spain and that's not easy because we have so many good players but most of them are over 30 now so me and other guys like Jaume Munar and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are getting closer," Martinez said, per the Roland Garros site. 

"We want to be the new generation to give some good news for our country."
