Roger Federer needs to win every match in 90 mins for RG win, says Kuerten

In an interview, the three-time French Open winner Gustavo Kuerten commented on the 2019 French Open. "If you have to pick a favorite, I still have Rafael Nadal," said the Brazilian. "Understanding the reasons is easy. There was a year where Novak Djokovic was at the same level. But now it's just Rafa all the time.

"For Roger Federer, it's much tougher to win French Open compared to any other Grand Slam because it has always been like this. He needs to be very fast, precise, an hour and a half on the court per match without wasting too much energy. It's very unlikely, but it's Federer and you cannot deny it."

Kuerten also recalled his match win over Federer in the 2004 French Open, coming back from hip surgery. "I went through an immense challenge, one of the biggest I had in my career because I was not 100 per cent and Federer was ten times better, better prepared. I reached the quarter-finals and from then I never had such an exciting moment."

The former Russian player Anna Dmitrieva commented on the main French Open favorites. Dmitrieva said: "I do not think Rafael Nadal will definitely be the champion. Now every win against the younger players is not easy for Nadal and Djokovic. I hope someone can make upsets: Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas or Sascha Zverev. As well as Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev. I am not speaking of winning the title but Medvedev is able to get success against a stronger player."
