Roger Rasheed absolutely blasts Bernard Tomic
Australian tennis coach Roger Rasheed has blasted fellow compatriot Bernard Tomic following his not-so-great French Open first round performance and an odd press conference.
Tomic, ranked at No. 84 in the world, stood no chance against rising star Taylor Fritz as the American claimed a 6-1 6-4 6-1 win to hand the Australian his third consecutive first-round exit at Roland Garros.
The Australian appeared to tank during the first set.
"It's probably what we've come to expect with Bernie, with his tennis and what his career has delivered," Rasheed said of Tomic on Sky Sports' Big Sports Breakfast, as revealed on Sporting News.
"He's shown he's got potential, but we've seen that around the globe in all different shapes and sizes.
"The actual output doesn't exist on a professional level at all."
Tomic didn't seem to be in the mood to talk to reporters after the match as he was providing short answers to the reporters' questions.
For his first round appearance at Roland Garros, Tomic earned €40,000.
"He (Tomic) shouldn't be rewarded - even at this level," Rasheed opinioned.
"The fact that he gets to take away a decent paycheque and went out and said he doesn't like the clay...
"His press conference was poor, he was giving one worded answers.
"Nothing about it has anything where you could be a young child, or young sportsman in Australia looking up to that and thinking 'I want to be a tennis player.'
"It's disappointing in a whole lot of facets, but it's the norm.
"It's his DNA and it's not going to change."
