John McEnroe names six players who could beat Rafael Nadal at RG

Former world No. 1 John McEnroe has named six players who could potentially beat record 11-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal on the clay of Roland Garros this year.    The six players named by McEnroe were 2016 French Open champion Novak Djokovic, 2009 champion Roger Federer, 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka, 2018 runner-up Dominic Thiem, 2019 Monte Carlo Masters champion Fabio Fognini and 2019 Madrid Masters runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Nadal, 32, kicked off his French Open campaign with two straight-set wins as he beat German Yannick Hanfmann in the first round before crushing Belgium's Yannick Maden in the second round respectively.

The second-seeded Spaniard plays next against former world No. 7 David Goffin, against whom he owns a 3-1 head-to-head record.

"He looks unbeatable, virtually, but he is about to turn 33," McEnroe told Eurosport during Nadal's win over Maden while assessing which players could defeat the Spaniard, as revealed on Metro UK.

"Djokovic, Thiem, Fognini – but they're on the other side of the draw, Federer on clay? Obviously, he respects him. Wawrinka? If he could get his act together, and he seems like he’s heading in the right direction. Tsitsipas has made a lot of progress, I guess you could put him in the mix. That would be about it."

Djokovic is one of the two players who beat Nadal at Roland Garros as the Serb beat the Spaniard at the tournament four years ago.

"I think Djokovic is the only guy who makes him shudder a bit. Still, you've got to be 60-40 for Nadal," McEnroe opinioned.
