Week 19: Roger Federer will come back on clay courts!

Finally, here we are! After two years of absence, Roger Federer will come back to compete on clay courts. His choice is to play the Mutua Madrid Open 2019 and, later, the French Open.

And the Madrid tournament will be the highlight of the week. Combined ATP/WTA events, this is the fourth Masters 1000 of the season and the third Premier Mandatory of the year. On the clay courts of the Caja Mágica, the great protagonists of the season are ready to ignite the playing surface, as if it were a fiery arena.

As for men's singles, in addition to Federer, there will be Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev, Kei Nishikori, Fabio Fognini, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gael Monfils and the come back of Juan Martin del Potro. There will be no Kevin Anderson, Milos Raonic and John Isner. It will also be the last tennis week of David Ferrer before the retirement.

As for women's singles, with Naomi Osaka, there will be Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Sloane Stephens, Garbine Muguruza, Caroline Wozniacki, Kiki Bertens, Victoria Azarenka, Aryna Sabalenka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Belinda Bencic. There will be no Serena and Venus Williams, nor Maria Sharapova.

There will also be the following four ATP Challenger events: the Open du Pays d'Aix, (in Aix-en-Provence, France, on clay courts), the Busan Open (in Busan, South Korea, on hard courts), the Garden Open (in Rome, Italy, on clay courts), Braga Open (in Braga, Portugal, on clay courts) and the Shymkent Challenger (in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on clay courts).
