Win over Novak Djokovic gives confidence to Rafael Nadal, says Goffin coach

In an interview to Sport Klub, David Goffin's coach Thomas Johansson commented on Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic's French Open chances. The Swede said: "To be totally honest, I think this year the situation is opener than usual. Now there are more favourites for the title - Rafa and Novak of course, but there are Dominic Thiem, Stefanis Tsitsipas who play very well on clay and Fabio Fognini who showed in Monte Carlo the level he can play at. The only question mark is if he can play at that rhythm for two weeks. Now it seems there are two players who are above others, but there will be a lot of threats."

"Rafa may have had a little fall on clay for the first time in his career. He played semifinals and finals, he won the title, it's still a great clay season, but not maybe for his standards. For his opponents, it's nice to see that Nadal is a human being who can lose, not play well. However, he is still the best ever on clay. On the other side, Novak seemed to be inconsistent, then he reached his usual game level. I think the win in Rome was important for Nadal from a mental point of view. In terms of tennis quality, it was not the best final but it was important for Rafa to see that he can dominate Novak even when he is not in his best shape."
