French Open crucial for Nadal to reach Roger Federer's Majors - Wilander
The seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander believes that winning this year's French Open for Rafael Nadal will be very important in order to hold most Grand Slam titles. "It's very difficult to predict how each player will progress. But if the final was today, I would say Rafa wins it. I think this tournament is crucial for him. If he wins, he can extend his dream to reach Federer's 20 Majors. If Rafa lifts the title here, he can also think about lifting one in New York. Rafa is prepared to triumph. Novak Djokovic is also going through a great shape or form, but his draw is tougher and if Nadal continues like he did in Rome and the first two matches he played here, it will be very difficult to win against him. He is doing very well and he played many matches. He is the No. 1 candidate."
Marion Bartoli said: "It's very difficult to go against Rafa in the Roland Garros, he was an 11-time tournament winner here and he is able to find the way to improve every year, like this time, that he was coming from not playing too well at the start on clay.
