Nick Kyrgios has talent, doesn't put the work in: Kim Clijsters

Speaking to the reporters in the French Open, the former world no. 1 Kim Clijsters commented on Johanna Konta's game. Clijsters compared it to Nick Kyrgios in terms of effort. "I think there are a lot of girls for whom Plan B might be a little bit further away than Plan A. She’s not the player who you can compare with Justine Henin or Amelie Mauresmo back in the day or Simona Halep who could use a lot of slices, but I do see that she’s working on playing on clay, the way that she’s sliding towards balls a little bit better, but the rhythm was sometimes off. I think it takes time."

Clijsters appreciates Konta's attempt to give her best: "She’s working hard at it and I think that’s the most important thing. On one side, you have a guy like Kyrgios who has every talent but doesn’t put the work in, then you have somebody like Johanna who maybe doesn’t have the talent but is working very hard at it. I think that’s the most important thing. At times it can get you a lot further."

On Konta, the 2013 Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli said: "I think she has been going through a rough period, first of all, because she really dropped after she made the semi-final in Wimbledon, and everyone thought she was going to win Wimbledon – and she didn’t. And she couldn’t win a match until the end of that year."

Konta reached the quarter-finals of the French Open for the first time in her career on Sunday. She defeated Croatian Donna Vekic in straight sets in their fourth-round match.
