Noah Rubin: Tennis doesn't owe anybody anything

American tennis player Noah Rubin now views tennis much more realistically as he says the game doesn't owe anybody anything.

The American enjoyed a successful junior career, having won the 2014 Wimbledon boys' singles title and reached the No. 1 spot.

As many before, Rubin had to learn on the hard way that being a successful junior doesn't necessarily mean that you will also be a top star when you turn professional.

Rubin, ranked at No. 183 in the world, has spent the majority of his short career on the Challenger tour. 

Former world No. 125 Rubin is now battling to make the Wimbledon main draw as he beat fellow compatriot Michael Mmoh in the qualifying final round. 

"It used to frustrate me,” Rubin said after beating Mmoh, per the Wimbledon website. “I used to almost think that I deserved to be at a certain spot. But tennis doesn’t owe anybody anything.

“It is one of the toughest sports in the world, it really is. When you’re talking about the few guys at the top, we’re talking about five, six guys, seven guys who actually make it [as Grand Slam champions].

“That’s such a small percentage. So the rest of us, we have to grind a little more but it can be worth it in the end.”

Rubin plays next against Roberto Quiroz.
