Roger Federer funnily recalls 2015 RG clash against Stan Wawrinka
Swiss tennis star Roger Federer was in great spirits after beating Argentina's Leonardo Mayer 6-2 6-3 6-3 and becoming the first player to reach the quarter-final at this year’s French Open.
The third-seeded Swiss, who plays next against his good friend Stan Wawrinka, funnily recalled his 2015 French Open clash against fellow compatriot Wawrinka.
Back then, Wawrinka handed a straight-set defeat to Federer in the quarter-final before he beat French Jo Wilfred Tsonga and world No. 1, Novak Djokovic, to win the title.
“I have some bad memories against Stan, who beat me in three sets in the quarter-final, in 2015, with his terrible shorts. But he played well that year and won the tournament. I hope to play against him,” Federer jokingly said after beating Mayer, per Tennis Magazine Twitter.
Federer, 37, has been phenomenal so far in his first French Open since 2015 as he beat four opponents in straight sets to reach the quarter-final in style.
Federer, a record 20-time Grand Slam champion, is targeting to win just his second title on the clay of Roland Garros.
